Family Photo Fun

While I was on vacation recently, I nervously checked the EnviroCan forecast back in Red Deer every few days... Not because I was worried about thermal shocking my body or anything (power engineering term - sorry!! hee hee), but because I had a photo shoot scheduled with some very important peeps for the day I arrived home. And who really knows, anyway, when it comes to Alberta weather!? At this time of year, it can certainly go either way.

Turns out I had nothing to worry about! Sunday was a beautiful day - quite atypical for November, actually - and I had a fabulous time with Mona and Ron. They brought their poochies along, and their kids joined us as well. It was awesome!

Thanks again to Mona, Ron, Terry and Karen! I had a great afternoon and it was wonderful to see you all!

Cheers!

Happy Little Family

Some friends whom I don't get to see very often stopped out in Canmore yesterday, and I spent an hour or so with them and their adorable little girl, taking some family photos. We wandered around at the Quarry, and I had just too much fun with my camera as the impossibly cute Sierra explored the park.

Sierra is energetic and curious and has the cutest curly brown hair!

The skies were a mix of cloud and sun, the air was calm, and the temperature was quite pleasant. Not only did I get to snap a ton of pics, which I love, but I had an awesome visit with Amanda and Darcy!

It was really great to see them, and I want to say thanks so much to Amanda for the box of homemade goodies she left with me!! What a fabulous day!

Cheers!

I Can See Clearly Now, The Rain Has Gone!

I have to admit, I was seriously nervous about my first wedding photo shoot... especially since the big day belonged to the son of an extremely dear friend of mine whom (along with the bride and groom of course!) I would never in a million years want to let down. I had been checking the weather forecast religiously, and right up until midnight on Friday, EnviroCan had in no way, shape or form been calling for anything more than 'cloudy periods' for the next day.

So imagine my nerves (and my vocabulary!) when, by 10:30am on Saturday, the skies had completely clouded over and the raindrops began to fall! D'OH!! And we're not talking a light little shower, either. Oh, how I could have just sat down and cried! But it wasn't long before the logical side of my brain reminded me that there was nothing I could do about the weather... So by 12:30pm, after cursing the sunless sky and vowing a full boycott of that dang 'meteo dot gc dot ca' site, I rolled up to the couple's house, prepared to do whatever I'd have to do - in the great indoors - to record the day as best I could for these fantastic, very important peeps.

I hung around Karen and Terry's house as the ladies got ready, and when the boys showed up at two o'clock, I was ecstatic to see that not only had the rain stopped, but the clouds were even breaking up! Yes! It was looking like we'd get at least a few pictures outside, in some natural light, and I was starting to get excited.

We spent an hour or so at Bower Ponds before going to the church, which was so totally cool of Karen and Terry I could hardly believe it. It was sheer bliss for me, to have that extra time to take some non-conventional shots along with the serious stuff. The bride and groom and their entire wedding party were such good sports - I had a blast!!

The day only got nicer and nicer, and by the time the late afternoon ceremony was finished, there was barely a cloud in the sky. You'd never have known that the day started out as dreary as it had.

Outside of the church, we had a quick, basic session with all the families and then it was off to the reception hall. The guests all arrived promptly and found their seats, and before I knew it, dinner was being served and my part in the big day had come to a close.

Karen and Terry are super easygoing and their day was an absolute joy to be part of. They are fun and happy and their wedding was fabulous! I had an amazing time with them, and I want to wish them all the best in their life together.

Cheers to Karen and Terry!

Reconnaisance Required

In order to prep for a wedding photo shoot coming up next weekend, my friend Awny and I spent a few hours yesterday afternoon scoping out the 'event site' (ie church, reception hall, nearby park). Awny is one of my favorite co-workers, and he also happens to be an avid photographer. Lucky for me, he is going to be helping out with the pics of the big day!

We found a couple of great places for photos, and I must say I had quite a bit of fun making him the subject of several of my test pictures! I was able to try out some different camera techniques and I've also had the chance to play with some post-processing software.

Of course a calm, overcast (but dry!) day would be the perfect scenario... however, I am confident that we will have an awesome session, no matter what the weather! Bring it on!!

Thanks again Awny, for your input yesterday and for being such a good sport! I am looking forward to September 11th!

And by the way, make sure to check out Awny's website - I have a link to it under the Friends' Fotos and Fun Stuff section here on my blog.

Cheers!
